Title: Forgiveness Tower
Objective: Participants work together to build a tower using paper cups, while also practicing forgiveness and empathy.
Materials:
Paper cups (at least 20 cups per group)
Timer
Marker
Paper and pens
Instructions:
- Begin by gathering participants into groups of 4-6 people.
- Ask participants to take a few minutes to think of a time when they were hurt or wronged by someone. Have them write down what happened and how it made them feel on a piece of paper.
- Once everyone has finished writing, have them crumple the paper into a ball and throw it to the center of the group.
- Explain to the group that forgiveness is a powerful tool that can bring healing and peace to both the forgiver and the one being forgiven. Read Colossians 3:13 and discuss the importance of forgiveness and how it can positively impact our lives.
- Give each group a stack of paper cups and explain that their task is to build the tallest tower they can using the cups. However, there is a catch - each person can only use one hand, and they cannot talk during the activity.
- Set a timer for 5-10 minutes and let the groups begin building their towers.
- After the time is up, have each group measure the height of their tower and mark it with a marker.
- Ask the groups to reflect on the activity and discuss any challenges they faced during the tower-building process. How did they work together to overcome those challenges?
- Ask each person to take a cup from their tower and hold it in their hand. Have them think of the person who hurt them and say a silent prayer of forgiveness for that person.
- Finally, have each person place their cup back on the tower, symbolizing the act of letting go and forgiving.
Lesson Learned:
Forgiveness is a powerful tool that can bring healing and peace to both the forgiver and the one being forgiven. It allows us to let go of negative emotions and move forward in our relationships with others.
Call to Action:
Think of someone in your life who has hurt you, and take a moment to say a prayer of forgiveness for them. Let go of any negative emotions and allow yourself to experience the freedom and peace that comes with forgiveness.
"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." - Colossians 3:13
